Portsmouth Mission: Saint Mary the Mother of God and Saint Moses the Black

After an absence of five years the British Orthodox Portsmouth mission of Saint Mary the Mother of God and Saint Moses the Black is to recommence worship as from Saturday 10th January 2009. The new venue is the (Church of England) Church of Saint Faith, 82A Craswell Street, Portsmouth, PO1 1HT. Morning Incense is scheduled for 10.00 am with the Divine Liturgy following at approximately 10.30 am. Saint Faith?s is a daughter Church of Saint Mary?s, Fratton, where our Syrian Indian brethren worship on the fourth Saturday most months.

British Orthodox Liturgies are planned at Saint Faith?s for every second Saturday each month throughout 2009 (with the exception of April as that Saturday will be the Anglicans? Easter weekend and they will be preparing the Church for their celebration of the Resurrection. Our own Holy Pascha falls one week later than Western Easter in 2009). Dates as follows: 10th January, 14th February, 14th March, 9th May, 13th June, 11th July, 8th August, 12th September, 10th October, 14th November, 12th December.

We anticipate keeping to Saturdays throughout 2009 and any consideration to ?upgrading? to Sunday worship for 2010 will be dependant on the level of commitment and support for this mission as actually experienced during the year. It will also be dependant on obtaining a Sunday venue in Portsmouth ? and on the situation at our Bournemouth Church as any such decision would of course impact upon the celebration of the Liturgy there.
