St. Felix parish will be supporting the Ikon Exhibition at North Walsham organised by the Reader Stephen Weston (Antiochian Orthodox Deanery) on Thursday, 28 September between 9-12 noon.
Parish members will be attending a Day Conference at Ditchingham Convent on 21 October on the subject of St. Cyril of Alexandria
The Parish will holding an Advent Quiet Day at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham 11.00 am - 3.00 p.m. Morning service and address by Fr. Philip Steer; Afternoon address and Vespers by Fr. Anthony Clements.

AN INTRODUCTION TO ST CYRIL OF ALEXANDRIA
St Cyril (c. 378-444 AD) is often depicted alongside St Athanasius in icons,
and they have much in common besides both having served as forceful
archbishops of Alexandria. In particular, Cyril shares (and builds upon)
Athanasius' distinctive salvific vision, with its emphasis on the union of God
the Word with the whole of humanity through the person of Christ.
In the fifth century, this Alexandrian understanding of Christ came into
conflict with a different perspective, as expounded by the current archbishop
of Constantinople (Nestorius). The resulting bitter debate on the rather
academic sounding topic of Christology (the "God-man" makeup of the person of
Christ) resulted in two landmark Church councils at Ephesus (431 AD) and
Chalcedon (451 AD) - the outcome of this latter council causing divisions in
the Eastern Church which persist to the present day.
COURSE OUTLINE
This course will provide an overview of Cyril's life & works, his perspective
on the person of Christ and his clash with Nestorius, as well as a little
insight into the fascinating world of international ecclesiastical politics in
the 5th century! Most importantly, we will examine the reasons why Cyril
advocated his position so vehemently.
The course will be divided into three sessions with breaks for lunch and
refreshments. Each session will consist of a period of teaching, with time for
questions as well as an opportunity to engage with some of Cyril's ideas on a
more personal level (using selected passages from his writings).
As always, absolutely no previous background in Church history or theology is
assumed.
COURSE DATE & LOCATION
This course is scheduled for 10.30am - 4.00pm on Saturday 21st October and
will take place in the main Chapel at All Hallows Convent, Ditchingham.
