Education package - Antony-Paul - 23-06-2009 08:07 PM
I am a new enquirer, coming from Roman Catholicism. I have looked through this website and found references to an education package being developed back in 2007.
Although I have been discussing things with Fr Simon and have his DVDs, I would welcome any additional material to help me with my understanding of BOC matters. Can anyone advise me if the above package has been completed, and if so where I can obtain it.
Thank you in advance,

Work on an education package is, I suspect, a more substantial undertaking than some of us realised and even with greater resources than ours could take some years to complete. The DVD lectures are a good introduction to Orthodox doctrine, theology or belief but can be supplemented by recommended reading.
In many ways what is really needed in order to gain the greatest insight into the BOC is attendance at and involvement in British Orthodox worship over a sustained period of time, working one's way through the weekly and even yearly rhythm of fasts and feasts. This coupled with answers (both in person and through reading material) to the various questions that will come up along the way is probably the best education package available.

Thank you Fr Simon. I quite understand the point. I was basically trying to enlarge my source material. The DVDs are indeed most helpful, and I look forward to joining in with worship.

Dear Fr. Simon,
I am quite willing to say my 'mea culpa' here
I think we probably tried to do too much with too many of us and ended up not even getting a camel for our pains
One thought which has been occurring to me is whether it would be a helpful part of such a programme to provide catenae of patristic quotations to the Sunday Gospel readings?
If you or Abba Seraphim would let me have a list of the readings for the months ahead, I would be happy to contribute a catena a week if it were thought to be useful. I have a wide range of patristic sources on my shelves here and the work would be congenial if it were thought to be useful.
