Orthodoxy in Philippines - seamankubiak - 19-02-2008 09:03 AM
I ask for a blessing and my name is Chris. I am American, but live in the Philippines with my wife (Filipino) and children. We have studied Orthodoxy for a long time and want to be part of one of the ancient Patriarchates. We also want to start a mission here to preach the Gospel. Until now we have not been sucessfult in finding a place to be received or a place to train me to start a church here. Does anyone have advice for us or wish to help us be received and myself trained?

The peace of the Lord be with you.
As far as I can see your only option in the Philippines is the Orthodox Church in the Philippines which has a website here...

This community appears to be under the care of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and has several parishes. I don't know if any are near you?
There is a wiki page here as well...

I hope some of this helps. These seem to be the only Orthodox group active in the Philippines.
Unless someone else knows better?

There are a lot of Filipinos in UAE - some of them I know are very devout in their faith. Being a nation with an overwhelming Christian majority, it is somewhat surprising that Orthodoxy has yet to get a foothold. But I believe that with time, this will change as more people open up to the depth of Orthodoxy. I somehow believe that this will also be the case in South America. In the mean time, lets pray that God bless the existing community and give them the strength to carry on.
