Annual Glastonbury Pilgrimage, Sat. 21 June 2008 - Severus - 28-01-2008 12:06 PM
For some years past Abba Seraphim has been invited to attend the annual Glastonbury Pilgrimage held in the abbey ruins each June and supported by traditionally-minded Anglicans, which has witnessed to our common devotion to our Lady Mary and the centrality of eucharistic worship.
This year Abba Seraphim has been invited to celebrate the Divine Liturgy in the Undercroft (St. Mary?s Chapel) as the official Orthodox representative at the Glastonbury Pilgrimage. Previously this invitation was only extended to the Eastern Orthodox Church, so this is a significant development, not only for the British Orthodox Church but also for the Oriental Orthodox family. Hopefully, this facility can alternate in future years between the two Orthodox families. Bishop David Silk, Chairman of the Glastonbury Pilgrimage Association writes, ?I need hardly say that I count it a very great privilege and joy for the Association to know that you wish to be with us for the Pilgrimage, and an even greater privilege and joy to know that you will also offer the Eucharistic Sacrifice.?
The Liturgy is scheduled for Saturday, 21 June at 9.30 a.m. but we shall offer Morning Incense at 9.00 a.m. It would be good if as many of our members and friends as are able, will come along to offer support and to participate in worship. Afterwards we will join in the Procession of Witness through the town and stay for the Anglican Eucharist. The weather is generally clement and a picnic lunch in the Abbey grounds is, traditionally, part of the festivities of the day. If anyone is attending from outside the area and needs advice about suitable overnight accommodation the Church Secretariat at Charlton would be happy to offer advice.
