Death of last descendant of Father Stephen Hatherly
Dorothy Eugenia Whitfield, nee Hatherly, (1921-2009) died yesterday morning, 14 September 2009 at her home in Appleby-in-Westmoreland, Cumbria. She was the devoted wife of David Whitfield, whom she married in 1970.
As the daughter of Eugene Bagot Hatherly, she was the last surviving descendant of Father Stephen Hatherly (1827-1905), the first Englishman ordained in the Greek Orthodox Church. She was a medical missionary and health visitor. Memory Eternal ! |
