British Orthodox sponsor meeting for Eritrean Patriarch
A SPECIAL MEETING
OF PRAYER AND REFLECTION SO THAT WE DO NOT FORGET His Holiness PATRIARCH ANTONIOS OF ERITREA and ALL CHRISTIANS CURRENTLY IMPRISONED FOR THEIR BELIEFS IN ERITREA at St. Mary?s-on-Paddington-Green London, W2 1LG on Wednesday, 27 June 2007 at 6.30 p.m. Speakers will include His Eminence Metropolitan Seraphim His Grace Bishop Angaelos Dr Gerald Gotzen (Globe Trotting) Dr. Martin Hill (Amnesty International) Elizabeth Chyrum (Human Rights Concern - Eritrea) The Eritrean Orthodox Patriarch Antonios was unlawfully removed from his position by the state-controlled Synod on 13 January 2006, after criticizing government interference in church activities, and has since been under house arrest until his recent removal at dawn by the Security forces to an unknown destination. According to Amnesty International?s report, he has been kept incommunicado and has not received adequate medical attention for his diabetes. His life may be at risk if he does not receive the treatment that he requires. Dozens of Orthodox Christians; over 2,000 Evangelical Christians and other religious groups have been persecuted, and imprisoned without proper trial under harsh conditions. We therefore invite all peace-loving people to take part in this evening service to hear the speakers, to remember the persecuted and pray together for them. We hope that you will be able to join us. The Venue: St. Mary?s is located just outside the Central London congestion zone, close to the junction of Edgware Road and Marylebone Road (see map). It is easily accessible by bus, underground and main line rail, with ample parking in the area. |
